WORKING TOWARDS UN SUSTAINABLE
DEVELOPMENT GOAL 13 CLIMATE ACTION
Procuring and Assembling Solar
Lamps To Be Distributed As A Part Of Our Community Outreach Project
During our Business Management
Committee meeting, we had decided that 20% of our profits would be spent on
buying 37 solar lamps to be gifted to villagers of Nayapura village who suffer
from erratic power supply. As a part of Global Student Solar Ambassador
Workshop our school partnered with Department of Energy Science and
Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay for ‘Gandhi Global Solar
Yatra’ to celebrate Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary on October 2, 2019.
‘Gandhi Global Solar Yatra’
envisioned spreading the message of Energy Swaraj and inspiring the young minds
about the use of Solar Energy to mitigate Climate Change keeping in mind the
principles of Gandhiji, the Father of our Nation. This was also the initiative
towards taking action for UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 - Climate Action.
37 solar lamps were bought by the SEC team from the profits generated,
assembled in the school by members of the business team of grade 11 and 12 of
SEC and were ready to be distributed to the villagers. This solved two purposes
– awakening in the minds of the students the need for renewable energy, doing
their bit for UNSDG 13 Climate Action as well as reaching out to the community.
