AN ODE TO MOTHER EARTH

The air was invigorating, the environment rejuvenating,
Indeed, Mother Earth is recuperating,
The soil was damp and dark,
And there set serenading a skylark!

Trees in the meadow grew lofty
–and the doves fluttered freely in the sunlit sky.
A cloudless sheen washed upon the hues of indigo,
Where dandelion weeds were once nurtured moons ago.

The winds caressing ocean in an ethereal aura,
Flora and fauna are in plethora.

Abruptly, I realise the quixotic verity,
That torpedoes my halcyon reverie.

For here, strolling through the coast of omnipresent synthetic shards,
I consume metallic water, respire charcoal and a world rife in carbonic cigars.

I behold the globe in a den of iniquity,
Alas, humans’ avarice brings sheer futility.

Spiraling pernicious pall of smoke cascading through factories’ nation,
Let us loathe relishing today’s savage civilization.

Through the ravages of time, her tolerance withers,
Whereupon the thirst of reprisal simmers.
Yet today, yielding endearment with alacrity,
Garnering her motherhood and pristine inheritance, we reflect humanity;
This Earth Day, amidst nature and mankind we must nurture amity.
